There are a lot of sarcastic elements that bases on the French - American "friendship" - very funny for all Europeans. ![]() Melville has been called the creator of the modern gangster film and a major influence on such directors as Martin Scorsese, John Woo and Quentin Tarantino. Constantin played Campana very cool, a silent hero that struggles against the police in Nice, the Nice mafia clan, the American killers and American police from the Bureau against Narcotics and dangerous Drugs (BND). An unusually stylish action-suspense-crime film, the noirish UN FLIC is the last movie from Jean-Pierre Melville, one of the great French directors of the 50s and 60s. Unfortunately American killers chase behind the Nice mafia clan too, in order to get control of french drug trades to USA. As he slips into the identity of a gangster's brother, who was already killed, he has to play the role of a loving husband with child - something that is not so easy for a confirmed single like Campana. He gets an undercover job in Nice to catch an Italian-french mafia boss. Michel Constantin plays Campana, a commissar at the drugs bureau of Paris police. Georges Lautner created a typical french comedy with quite a good portion of violence, drugs, sex and sarcasm. ![]() Melville’s vision of modern-day corruption, which he kept in check under the regime of Charles de Gaulle (whom Melville had served in the French Resistance), was evidently liberated by de Gaulle’s death, in 1970 here, Melville’s chilly manner turns sardonic as he vents pent-up bile.This movie is a mixture between gangster movie and comedy. “The cold restraint with which Melville films the opening bank robbery and the central heist suggests emotion with an exquisite subtlety that borders on hysterical repression – and Delon, with his ice-blue eyes and mask-like stillness, serves the director’s purposes perfectly, as does Deneuve, who, as a platinum princess playing on both sides of the law, gives away nothing, either to her two men or to the camera. – Thomas Quinn Curtis, International Herald-Tribune Who can resist him with his world-weary nonchalance and his incipient brutality? He is a hero of our times.” 'Un Flic', directed by Maurice de Canonge, is an ordinary gangster movie with young Raymond Pellegrin and is almost forgettable except that in the end, the gangsters are trapped in a bourgeois house in the suburb of Paris and attacked by 300 policemen with all specific protections and armored cars. “Delon is at home in the shadowy underworld of dubious nightclubs and shady hotels, has an easy way with gangsters’ molls, is quick on the trigger and given to beating up suspects when they are dragged to headquarters. “Chilling perfection!
